TUCSON - Saturday's loss in the Western Conference Finals was a disappointing ending to a record-breaking season for FC Tucson. The team advanced to its furthest point in the Premier Development League playoffs. The club also hosted its first ever postseason event. Monday, two athletes were honored with All-Conference nods.
Ricardo Velazco and Billy Thompson were named to the PDL All-Conference Western Conference squad according to FC Tucson. Velazco is a local product who was named captain this season. Thompson was excellent in goal throughout the year.
Velazco's 18 points and seven goals led FC Tucson. He was ranked in the top 15 nationally in the points category. Thompson was among the top 10 in the country with 10 wins, five shutouts and a 0.77 goals against average.
The duo becomes only the second and third FC Tucson athletes to earn the All-Conference honors.
"Both Ricardo and Billy deserved these accolades," said FC Tucson general manager Jon Pearlman. "Their performances were consistent and outstanding through the entire season. Their future is very bright and I expect them to be playing professionally by the end of the year."
