TUCSON - A teacher at Valencia Middle School is on administrative leave. The Pima County Sheriff's Department tells News 4 Tucson, they're investigating an incident involving a student and the teacher.
On Monday, Tucson Unified School District officials say they placed the teacher on paid leave. On Tuesday, the school contacted the sheriff's department.
News 4 Tucson is not naming the teacher because they haven't been charged with any crime.
Courtney Rodriguez spokeswoman for PCSD tells News 4 Tucson, the report had to do with "Some type of interaction or activity with one of the teachers and the students." She says, the detectives are just beginning the investigation.
Meanwhile, some parents like Tracy Lopez are shocked. Lopez says she is very familiar with Valencia Middle School. Her daughter was a student there for three years. "I got involved with a lot of the teachers for my daughters last year there. I coached the girl's soccer team. I know the principal and the office people and they are all great. They are great people." She adds, "Teachers are there to teach a child and you trust them."
TUSD Communications Director Cara Rene sent this email: "As this a personnel issue and an open investigation we cannot comment further at this time and will be declining interviews for that reason."
