The latest in cancer treatment might come from you -- your genes.
Columbus doctors are leading the way in finding new treatments that specifically target cancer using DNA.
At age 51, Jared Gordon thought he just had a bad cold. It turned out to be lung cancer.
"Stage four when they found it, because ... initially a tumor in the lung and had spread to the lining of the lung and some of the lymph nodes," Gordon said.
Years ago, Gordon had been a light smoker. Cancer wasn't even on his radar.
The father of three children, a single father, was told he had six months to live.
What is so unique about Gordon's case is his treatment.
Doctors at The Ohio State University's Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital took a tissue sample of his tumor and with a machine found a genetic mutation.
