The following is a release from Tucson Police:
On the morning of January 14, 2013, the Tempe Police Department notified the Tucson Police Department that Mr. John
Stegmeier and Mrs. Marie Stegmeier had been located. Officers from the Tempe Police Department made continual
checks of their residence and the Tempe, Arizona area. Thankfully, Mr. and Mrs. Stegmeier were located and returned
home. Many thanks go out to the outpouring of concern for this couple as well as for all of the efforts that were put forth to locate them.
The Tucson Police Department has conducted extensive checks throughout the Tucson area in an attempt to locate a missing elderly couple. John Charles Stegmeier, 89-years old, and Marie Montana Stegmeier, 90-years old, unexpectedly drove to Tucson on January 11, 2013 and spent the night.
They both live in Tempe, Arizona, but have a daughter living in the Tucson area. She was not expecting them, and other family members were unawarethat Mr. and Mrs. Stegmeier had driven to Tucson.
They telephoned family members on the afternoon of Saturday, January 12, 2013
and left a voicemail message advising that they were in Tucson. The family was able to determine that Mr. and Mrs. Stegmeier had stayed at the Hampton Inn located at 251 South Wilmot Road on the evening of January 11, 2013.
Since leaving the hotel, no family or friends have been in contact with them. Mrs. Stegmeier has been diagnosed with dementia, and Mr. Stegmeier is known to have a worsening mental condition, possibly related to dementia as well.
It is unknown why they came to the Tucson area or what their plans are while here. Family believes that they may have still been trying to get to their daughter's residence in Tucson.
Mr. Stegmeier is described as a Caucasian male, 5'10" tall, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. Mrs. Stegmeier is described as a Caucasian female, 5'04" tall, weighing approximately 115 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.
They have access to money and are driving in their vehicle, which is a Silver 2012 Chevrolet Sonic (compact sedan) bearing Arizona license plate ATR8207.
Anyone having information about the whereabouts of Mr. and/or Mrs. Stegmeier or their vehicle is urgedto call 911 as soon as possible so that their welfare can be checked. We would like to provide them with any assistance they might need in getting to their desired location or in returning to their own residence in Tempe, Arizona.
