TUCSON - A man is in custody after deputies say he opened fire at a Sun Van driver.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department says deputies responded to the Sun Van facility located at 3401 East Ajo Way about 4 p.m. When deputies arrived, the driver told them as he approached the intersection of South Broadmont Drive and East Ajo Way, a truck stopped in front of him and two armed subjects got out.
The driver made an immediate left turn onto Broadmont headed toward the facility parking lot.
As he pulled into the lot, the same vehicle stopped on the road behind him. The driver saw an armed subject get out of the truck and fire multiple shots toward the bus. After shooting his weapon, that person got back into the truck and drove away.
The driver was the only person in the bus and he was not injured.
A witness in the area was able to get a good description of the suspect, the truck involved, and the license plate. Deputies immediately started a search and found the truck at a residence in the 3000 block of South Tower Way. Deputies detained four individuals at that location.
That's when they learned 27-year-old Lawrence Ortiz, was involved in the shooting. He was later transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited possessor in possession of a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure.
