Tucson - The latest in the shooting of Tucson Police sergeant, Robert Carpenter.
The officer was critically wounded on Sunday while responding to a burglary call.
Police now have a person of interest is in custody.
On Monday evening, Tucson SWAT officers converged on the Randolph Park Hotel, just blocks from where Carpenter was shot.
The Old Pueblo Grille is next door to the hotel. The restaurant's manager, Gary Hickey, said his employees were the first to alert him to what was happening in the neighboring parking lot.
"A couple of servers came in saying they got him, they got him", Hickey said, "I came out and the SWAT team had a gentleman on the ground handcuffed and yelling at him don't move don't move."
Police have not confirmed that the man is connected to the shooting but did release this statement in an email.
"At this time, we can confirm that a person of interest has been detained. There have been no charges brought against the suspect or any other persons at this time."
After the suspect was taken in to custody the Tucson Police Crime Scene Unit searched a Honda accord and a U-Haul moving van that were parked in the hotel parking lot.
Sergeant Carpenter remains in critical condition at UAMC suffering from a head wound.
