UPDATE: no one wounded in high school basketball game shooting

PHOENIX - A witness says she heard at least 10 gunshots Friday evening at Cesar Chavez High School in southwest Phoenix near the school's gymnasium.

Sgt. Steve Martos, a Phoenix police spokesman, confirmed that shots were fired Friday night and said police are looking for three people in connection with the incident. It's not clear if the shots were fired inside or outside the gym.

Alicia Sotelo, 18, said she heard someone yell "it's going to happen now," then heard gunfire.

Sotelo, a senior at Chavez, said she and other teens took off running and didn't turn back.

At least a dozen police cars remained parked outside the high school with lights flashing at about 8:30 p.m. as a police helicopter circled the area near 43rd Avenue and Baseline Road.

Sotelo said she didn't see anyone with gunshot wounds and that it appeared whoever was firing was shooting into the air.

Hundreds of people were at the gym at about 7 p.m. for a boys varsity basketball game between Cesar Chavez and Betty H. Fairfax High School.
