PUERTO PENASCO - Five people were killed early Wednesday in a gun battle that involved Mexican military forces.
Sonora Attorney General Carlos Navarro said in a press conference the gun battle took place between Marine forces and federal police in a popular tourist spot known as Sandy Beach, El Imparcial reported.

There were reports on social media of helicopters gunships firing at the complex.
Three of the men who died were suspected hitmen, or sicarios, KPNX reported.
Attorney General Carlos Navarro said two of the men died when they crashed their vehicle trying to flee authorities during the confrontation. Navarro said another man was seriously wounded in the gunbattle.
Mexican Marine forces and federal police were involved in a chase in the area just before 5 a.m.
At 8 a.m. the U.S. State Department issued a warning to U.S. citizens traveling in the area to stay indoors.
