Tucson Police found Chavarria safe with only minor scrapes.
The following is a release from Tucson Police:
Personnel from the Tucson Police Department have initiated an extensive search in the Rita Ranch area for a missing elderly male.
Genaro Chavarria, 92-years old,was reported missing at approximately 7:30 a.m. on January 1, 2013.
Mr. Chavarria's family was able to pinpoint the time that he left his residence to approximately 2:00 a.m. He has been diagnosed with Advance Alzheimer's.
On previous occasions when he has left the residence, he became confused and was not able to remember how to get home. In those instances, he was located walking in the Rita Ranch area, generally in the vicinity of South Nexus and East Rita Road.
Mr. Chavarria is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5'08" tall, weighing 160 pounds, with gray, balding hair.
He was last seen wearing a brown and white, plaid flannel shirt, jeans, and black tennis shoes.He is not familiar with using the bus system and does not have any access to money.
The overnight temperatures dipped to 30 degrees, significantly increasing the concern for his well-being. Mr. Chavarria did not take with hima jacket or other clothing items to keep him warm.Tucson Police Department personnel will be continuing the search for Mr. Chavarria.
Anyone who might have seen him or have information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediatelyso that his welfare can be checked, he can get any medical attention he might need, and he can be returned home.
