TUCSON - A Tucson man is dead after he was hit by a train Saturday afternoon.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. at 6th Street and Ash Avenue, south of the downtown area.
Police say 53-year-old Carl Astrum was riding his bike southbound on 9th Avenue and started to turn eastbound on 6th Street. He crossed onto the tracks and was hit from behind by a Union Pacific Railroad train.
Astrum was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The conductor stopped the train and cooperated with investigators at the scene. Police say based on evidence and witness statements, Astrum was at-fault. No charges are expected to be filed.
