MOUNT LEMMON - UPDATE as of 9:30 AM - Everything wrapped up around 11:30 last night. Rescue crews were able to get the climber down and get him to a hospital by ambulance. At this time the climber is in stable condition at a local hospital. Police are not releasing any names at this time.
UPDATE- Rescue crews have reached a rock climber trapped by a bee swarm.
According to Search and Rescue crews on the scene at Mount Lemmon, a group of climbers encountered a bees' nest late Tuesday afternoon. The bees swarmed and some of the climbers managed to escape, but one climber's equipment malfunctioned and he became trapped in the swarm. The climbers that escaped received hundreds of bee stings and have been taken to a local hospital.
The bees continued to swarm for hours, crews were unable to reach the man until a helicopter was brought in to disperse the bees. Around 9:15pm crews were able to reach the man. They say it will take at least and hour to get him down safely. It is unclear how many stings he's suffered.
