UPDATE: Pima County Sheriffs say the boy is now stable in the hospital. Deptuy Tracy Suitt says the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
AMADO - A 3-year-old boy is in the hospital having emergency surgery Monday after being shot in a home near Amado, Pima County Sheriffs deputies said.
He was flown to University of Arizona Medical Center where he has undergone surgery and remains in critical condition as of 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Deputies responded to the home in the 26900 block of S. Monarch Way Monday afternoon. Detectives with the Crimes Against Children and Homicide units are on scene, Pima County Sheriff's deputy Tracy Suitt said.
A search warrant is being served at the home, sources said.
Suitt says a call to 911 was made about an accidental shooting in the area.
