University police honor vigilant students and citizens

TUCSON - On Wednesday, the UA police department honored those who help keep the campus safe.

The honorees at the UA Heroes event have shown their willingness to be viligant by reporting suspicious activity and crime around campus.

Today, the UAPD awarded them "partners with our community" challenge coins and certificates.

One recipient, Lauren Mueller, reported a suspicious man on campus who happened to have an active arrest warrant.

"It's ok to contact the police, she said. "Make a call even if you don't think your call is a real-life emergency."

A total of eight people were recognized at Wednesday's event.
