TUCSON - The TUSD board will consider moving University High School off the Rincon campus.
University is a magnet school that attracts students from all over the district. It shares a campus with Rincon. Neither school has more power than the other.
"Right now, I think it's working fairly well," board member Mark Stegeman said, "but many times in the past, it hasn't worked as well."
More Tucson Unified School District campuses will almost definitely close. That might make it easier to move University High.
Stegeman also wants to create a separate new middle school. The UHS administration would help run it, maybe on the same new campus. Stegeman does not think the new middle school should have admissions requirements.
"Middle schools are a weakness for us," Stegeman said, "and I think the UHS community has the capacity and the talent to make that work very well."
A major change probably would not happen until the 2014-2015 school year.
