TUCSON- Researchers at the University of Arizona Medical Center are studying whether small, wearable sensors can predict and prevent falls.
The Zephyr BioModule sensors will track patients' skin temperature, physical activity, heart rate, respirations and echocardiogram readings.
The technology will collect a massive amount of data regarding patient activity while in the hospital, and help pinpoint which patients are most likely to fall.
Researchers hope that eventually the system can be used to alert nursing staff or even family members when a fall seems imminent.
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury to hospitalized patients.
