Head coach David Rubio and the Arizona volleyball team announced its 2012 schedule this week. The Wildcats will host three tournaments and travel to one before opening up Pac-12 play against in-state rival Arizona State on Sept. 18.
Arizona will open with the Wildcat Classic on Friday, Aug. 24 to host Evansville, Cal State Northridge and Utah Valley. The next weekend, the Wildcats will travel to Malibu, Calif. for the Pepperdine Tournament with Cal State Fullerton, Bay'i China and Pepperdine.
UA will then return back to McKale Center to host the Arizona Invitational with Iona, Lipscomb and TCU on Sept. 7 and 8. On Sept. 14 and 15, Arizona will host the Arizona Desert Classic with UC Irvine, Boise State and American.
In Pac-12 play, the Wildcats will play all opponents twice, with the exception of Washington and Washington State.
In 2011, Arizona finished with a 19-13 record after falling to Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats return six letterwinners, including junior libero Candace Nicholson (Long Beach, Calif.) and Pac-12 All-Freshman selection Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.).
The team welcomes 10 newcomers to the squad, including junior transfers Chanel Brown (Tempe, Ariz.), Alyse Hensley (San Diego, Calif.) and Emily Kiser (Golden, Colo.) and freshmen Halli Amaro (Los Alamitos, Calif.), Emily Bemis (DeKalb, Ill.), Lauren Fuller (Los Angeles, Calif.), Olivia Magill (Seattle, Wash.), Aubrey McKinney (Mill Valley, Calif.), Stevie Stier (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Kendall Walwick (San Diego, Calif.).
