UA to Break Ground on 54-Acre Bioscience Park

Tomorrow is the official groundbreaking for the University of Arizona Bioscience Park (Bio Park), a world-class development expected to generate stable high-paying jobs, attract capital investment for emerging industries and sustain long-term economic growth for greater Tucson and Arizona.

At the “Destination Discovery” groundbreaking event, UA President Robert N. Shelton; Bruce Wright, associate vice president for university research parks; A. Leonard Smith, regional director for the Economic Development Administration; and former Tucson City Councilman Steven Leal, will speak to an anticipated gathering of 300 guests about the Bio Park’s potential to contribute to sustainable economic growth development for the region and to become a global destination for innovation and collaboration.

At the conclusion of this non-traditional ceremony, participants will break new ground with new ideas as they submit their research and discovery aspirations for the Bio Park.  This Discovery List will be captured and published on the Bio Park Web site.

A press briefing is tomorrow beginning at 12:30 p.m. and that is followed by the groundbreaking at 1:30 p.m.  The press briefing is at Quincie Douglas Library, 1585 E. 36th St.  The Arizona Bioscience Park site groundbreaking will take place on the southwest corner of 36th Street and Kino Parkway.
