TUCSON - A UA student is being blackmailed after her tablet was stolen at the UA library.
For privacy, KVOA is protecting the identity of the student.
On Oct. 15, the UA student was studying at the UA library when she left for a brief moment to use the restroom. She left her laptop on the table and her tablet in her backpack.
"I didn't even know it was missing until the next morning because I didn't realize somebody would steal your tablet that was in a backpack," said the student.
A couple days later, she received an email from an India.com domain stating, "...we found nice pictures in a used device... do you want them back?" Also, in the email were two attached nude photos of that student.
In return for the photos, the person wanted a $30,000 donation to some Internet groups.
"I tried to negotiate with him to $10,000 to $15,000, but he rejected," said the student.
On Oct.18, the student reported the missing tablet to the University of Arizona Police Department.
The following day, she received this email, "Hey girl, we have reasons to believe you have tried the police approach. The communication is now off."
The next week, the nude pictures were sent to her friends.
"I am scared about what might happen next. As long as he has those photos you don't know what he'll do," the student said.
UAPD is currently investigating this case.
