TUCSON - The man killed in a plane crash Friday was identified as Terril "Ted" Wilson, 75, a University of Arizona adjunct professor.
His single engine airplane crash landed and flipped over near Ajo Highway and Postvale Road around 9:30 a.m. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moe Momayez is an associate professor at the U of A's Mining and Geological Engineering department. He worked with Wilson, and said he was loved and respected by students and faculty.
"He will be missed," Momayez said, "and I'm sure the students will miss him terribly,"
He said Wilson brought practical knowledge to his classes because he spent years working in the mining industry.
"Ted taught every conceivable course in mining engineering," Momayez said. "So he knew the subject extremely well."
Wilson took the semester off, but Momayez hoped he would come back in the fall.
He said Wilson also had a great love for flying, and wanted to take Momayez in his plane.
"I'm sorry that never happened," Momayez said. "It would have been great to fly with him."
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but it could take months to determine.
