The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) listed Brigetta Barrett as one of three finalists for The Bowerman. The Bowerman is awarded to collegiate track and field's best athlete of the year. The winner of The Bowerman will be announced on December 19 in conjunction with the USTFCCCA Convention in Orlando, Fla. The three finalists will be invited to take part in the award ceremony.

Barrett is the first student-athlete in Arizona history to be named a finalist for The Bowerman. Additionally, Barrett was only the third woman in award history to make a second semifinalist appearance. Barrett swept NCAA high jump titles for the second-straight season in 2012. She became the first in woman in DI history to earn dual-season titles in back-to-back years, a combination of four consecutive national titles between the seasons. At the indoor championships, Barrett cleared 6-5 (1.96m) to take home her second-straight indoor title. Also during the indoor season, Barrett cleared 6-5.5 (1.97m), which was good for the school record in the event. That leap tied Barrett for the second-best mark in indoor collegiate history and was the best among the collegiate ranks since 2009. Additionally, Barrett won her second-straight MPSF title in the high jump, setting a MPSF Championships record by clearing 6-4 (1.93m).

Barrett earned a spot on Team USA for the London Olympic Games. She took second place at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the women's high jump competition with a personal-best clearance of 6-7 (2.01m). Since the mark did not take place during the collegiate season, it is not the collegiate record. However, Barrett is the lone collegian to ever clear more than 6-6, in-season or postseason. That mark was also a school record and a meet record.

During the collegiate season, Barrett cleared 6-4 (1.93m) at the NCAA Championships, good for her second-straight outdoor title. Barrett jumped consistently throughout the outdoor season, clearing 6-4 or better six times. She cleared 6-4.75 (1.95m) at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Stanford Invitational. Barrett also earned her second-straight conference title, clearing 6-4.25 (1.94m) at the Pac-12 Championships.

Dating back to 2011, Barrett has won 17-straight competitions versus collegiate competition.
