TUCSON - The University of Arizona's Homecoming is this weekend, with kick-off events starting this evening.
The annual tradition has a history of nearly 100 years. Those present will celebrate with the traditional bonfire, pep rally, and, of course, the Homecoming football game against Colorado.
Tonight's festivities will include Bear Down Friday, a pep rally on University Boulevard, from 4 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. There will be performances by Good Question, the UA Pom Line & Drum Line, and a skit by Wilbur & Wilma, according to a university news release.
Immediately following the pep rally is the annual bonfire at 7:10 p.m. The Tucson Fire Department will light the bonfire and remain on the site to be certain the fire stays under control. TFD will extinguish the fire at 8 p.m. when the celebration ends.
Saturday's festivities kick off with Tents on the Mall and the Alumni Association Tailgate Party at 7:30 a.m. For entertainment and fun visit the Alumni Association tent, located at Cherry Avenue and University Boulevard, university officials stated. Food-vendor tents will have food available for purchase.
Those attending the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, can vote for their favorite float by texting UA Float to 99222. The winner will receive the Vote the Float Best-in-Show Award and a grand prize of $150.
The Homecoming festivities are capped off with the Homecoming football game against Colorado. Kickoff will be at 11:30 a.m. The winner of the Vote the Float contest will be announced on the scoreboard during the game.
