TUCSON - A mechanical failure fire inside a U.S. Postal truck Monday destroyed mail for hundreds of Tucsonans.

The mail carrier was able to escape unharmed, but the truck and mail inside was destroyed. It was carrying mail from about 400 Tucson addresses.

The U.S. Postal Service was still able to deliver a minimal amount of the mail with readable addresses.

Residents affected will receive a letter from the postal service in the next day or two.
