ATLANTA (AP) - An American doctor infected with the deadly Ebola virus in Africa is now in Atlanta for treatment.
Dr. Kent Brantly arrived at Dobbins Air Reserve Base near Atlanta today aboard a specially outfitted private plane.
An ambulance left the base shortly after the jet landed and drove the 15 miles or so toward Emory University Hospital where Brantly and another aid worker will be treated.
Kent Brantly's wife, Amber, says her husband was able to walk into the hospital.
His arrival today marks the first time anyone infected with Ebola, considered one of the world's deadliest diseases, is believed to have been brought into the country for treatment. Nancy Writebol, a second American aid worker infected with the virus, is expected to arrive within a couple days at Emory University
U.S. officials are confident the patients can be treated without putting the public in any danger.
