TUCSON - A University of Arizona alum has died in the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
The school confirmed Alex Teves graduated from the U of A in 2010 with a degree in pyschology.
The 24-year-old grew up in Ahwatukee.
He graduated in 2006 from Desert Vista High School in the Tempe Unified School District.
Teves was one of 12 victims killed Friday when a gunman opened fire in a crowded movie theater premiering the new movie "The Dark Knight Rises."
Teves earned his Masters degree in Counseling Psychology with the Morgridge College of Education in Colorado last month.
The school issued this statement, "The University extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends, including the many current students and faculty who knew and worked with Alex. More details will be released as they become known."
U of A Athletic Director Greg Byrne tweeted this message Saturday, "Sad to hear that Arizona grad Alex Teves was killed in the terrible shooting in Aurora. Prayers go out to his family and friends."
The U of A issued this statement late Saturday night, "The University of Arizona community is heartbroken to hear the news that alumnus Alex Teves was one of the victims of the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colo. Alex graduated from the University of Arizona in May 2010 with a degree in psychology. Our prayers are with Alex's family and friends, and with all the victims of this terrible tragedy. "
