Two hurt when plane skids off runway

SCOTTSDALE (AP) - A Scottsdale city councilman and another person were injured Monday after the small plane they were in slid off the runway at the Scottsdale airport.

Airport spokeswoman Sarah Ferrara says Bob Littlefield, a longtime city councilman and a flight instructor, had minor injuries and was in good condition at a local hospital.

The other person on the single-engine plane also had minor injuries.

Ferrara says the plane slid off the runway during a touch-and-go maneuver around 9:30 a.m.

News footage showed significant damage to the plane, including a crushed nose, bent and broken wings and no visible landing gear.

Meanwhile the pilot of a corporate jet carrying 40 people reported hearing a noise shortly after taking off from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on Monday morning.

The plane soon after landed safely.
