TUCSON - The TUSD community is getting ready for another new superintendent.
John Pedicone announced his resignation in a news conference Wednesday. He has been in the position about 2 and a half years.
He never planned on being in the position long term, and the Governing Board knew that.
School board member Mark Stegeman said Pedicone has done great work, but they will stay consistent.
"The most important people in the district are never the board or the central administration," Stegeman said. "The most important people are principals and the teachers and the other site staff that take care of the children that families entrust to us."
Michael Esser is a math teacher at Howenstine High School. He has been with the district since 2000.
"The entire administrative culture in TUSD may need to change," Esser said, "and it may be something that [Pedicone] was not able to get done as effectively as he wanted to do."
He said he spoke as a citizen and taxpayer, not a teacher.
"I think they need to look into the classrooms to find the people that actually need to lead TUSD," Esser said.
David Caffarel's niece attends Roskruge K-8 near the University of Arizona.
"I think it's a shame," he said. "I think he was a good man and he was the right man for the job."
Pedicone will stay until June 30.
The board will start a national search for a replacement immediately.
