TUCSON- Mahli Arias has two young kids enrolled in Head Start.
"They are going to be able to read before their age and understand the importance of an education," said Arias.
While they are prepping for their school career Mahli is prepping herself to be a better parent along with 25 other parents in this Pima Community College Literacy Connects Class.
"They come every day. They are learning English. They are studying for their GED, they are improving parenting skills," said Katy Brown, family literacy instructor.
These classes are full of folks who never received the information or resources they need to navigate their child through the school system, which includes financial stability.
"I want to get a new job and also help my husband and just get a better education," said Arias.
In this particular class the focus is finances which began by asking the students what they want to know.
"They would like to know how to save for their child's education, to learn better budgeting skills, how to prioritize spending," said Brown.
