TUCSON - A Tucson based relief organization is asking for donations to send to Chile.
World Care, which assists a clinic near the disaster zone, is asking for the public's help getting supplies shipped out quickly.
Janet Wood is busy sorting donated items, they are then boxed and ready to ship.
Wood says right now, the biggest need is hygiene items.
"Hair care, deodorants, mouthwash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, things they need on a daily basis," says Wood.
Medical supplies are a big help too.
"Bandages, gauze, alcohol, peroxide," she adds.
What they don't need are household items and clothing.
"It's not a necessity right now. The most urgent things right now are for personal care and personal hygiene," says Wood who prefers new, un-used items.
And as the packing gets underway, Lisa Hopper founder of World Care can't help but worry for colleagues at a clinic in Molina, Chile located 45 miles from the quake's epicenter.
No electricity means no telephone, email or any communication at all.
"It's a big nerve center within that area that has the capacity to help those in that community, so we're very anxious to find out what's going on," says Hopper.
Just last week, Hopper returned home to Tucson from Haiti, helping earthquake survivors there. If needed, she's prepared to head to Chile as well.
