TUCSON- If you want to get on Jeune Berger's good side, just send her a card.
"I save cards from everybody," Berger says with a smile. "I just love cards!"
So with her 95th birthday coming up on February 27, Berger expected some mail. "The most I ever got was about a dozen cards," Berger says.
Little did the feisty gal know she was about to get a lot more. "These people just went crazy," Berger says.
A few months ago, one of Berger's nieces, Susan Sloan, had the idea to send her Aunt Jeune 95 birthday cards, for her 95th birthday. Sloan posted a few messages on Facebook to get the word out.
Now with just one day left until her birthday, Berger has nearly 70 cards. She received 18 in just one day. "I didn't expect anything like this!" Berger says. "They're coming from Phoenix, Washington, Colorado, the East Coast."
One card even came with a gift card to Hooter's, a restaurant Berger has frequented in the past.
It's a welcome surprise, since Berger has a huge family and most of them don't live in Arizona. "I don't get to see them too much," Berger says.
But on this birthday she knows her family is with her in spirit. "I never knew I had so many people who cared about me," Berger says.
And when you're turning 95-years-old, there is no greater gift.
