TUCSON - A Tucson woman can only imagine how many mailing lists she's been put on over the years.
More remarkable is all the free stuff sent to 89-year-old Carol McBride.
For 12 years she has collected and documented these free items brought by the mailman.
"A talking watch that tells blind people what time it is," says McBride while sifting through a sample of items put out on the table. "Here's a dream catcher and of course tote bags come quite often."
McBride carries an unusual trait for counting and documenting all these things mailed to her for free. "I can't quite explain why I do all of this."
For example, in 2007, McBride received 9,329 address labels, 1,724 seals, 620 catalogs, 465 gift tags, 98 stamps, 80 calendars, 38 bookmarks, 21 bumper stickers, 12 foreign coins, t shirts, maps, toys, umbrellas, lights, clocks, the list goes on.
McBride also received a total of $9.45 cash in 2007.
Most of the free stuff comes from charities. But McBride says they are being wasteful by sending all this unsolicited loot.
"I don't encourage it at all. I wish they would put the money into their program rather than into these goodies."
McBride admits contributing to some charities, especially if the cause helps the environment.
