Tucson toddler in serious condition after near drowning

TUCSON - An almost 2-year-old girl is still in serious condition Monday after a near drowing incident Sunday afternoon.

The girl, who was resuscitated through CPR by a neighbor, almost drowned in an above ground pool near Valencia and Camino del la Tierra, Drexel Heights Fire Department spokeswoman Tracy Koslowski said.

The girl's near-drowning is the first for the year in Pima County.

The call to 911 was made at 4 p.m. Firerfighters responded to the home in the 6800 block of south Paseo de las Aguilas and found the 2-year-old in the backyard next to the above ground pool, Koslowski said.

Family members had pulled the girl out of the pool.

A neighbor had performed CPR on the girl and was able to get her conscious again, Koslowski said. Paramedics to her UAMC where she is currently in serious condition with fluid in her lungs.
