TUCSON- 'Tis the season for snow, lights and a Santa letter.
But nothing says holiday spirit like the "Ugly Christmas Sweater".
"You see old ladies wearing them and it's so sweet and endearing," Anna Lamb says.
"The more corny, gaudy, things on them the better," Winnie Berger says.
They feature that popular dog from "Charlie Brown" and snowmen who dare not frown. "They have the cheesiest stuff," Jean-Pierre Lissade says. "They have like the few reindeer, the elves and the Santa Claus.
"They have the bright greens and the reds," Lamb says. "Then the golds and bells and bobbles and stuff hanging off of them."
Most are old and raggedy, not in great condition. So News 4 Tucson wanted to know, what is it that makes the Ugly Christmas Sweater such a holiday tradition?
"It's like getting a crappy tie for Christmas," Lamb says.
"I think it's because they're so ugly and awkward that everyone wants to wear them," Berger says.
Indeed, you can rock them in the cold, or while keeping an eye on the Norad Santa Tracker. We can all agree any kind of simple sweater screams SLACKER!
So this holiday season, if you don't find yourself under the mistletoe, or if you're just feeling kind of low...
Not to worry.
It will all work out for the best, as long as you're wearing your Ugly Christmas Sweater or vest. "The ugly Christmas sweater really isn't all that ugly," Meghan Thurine says.
