TUCSON - There's a teenager in Tucson who has an eye for adventure and a passion for people. Salpointe Catholic High School student, Alexandra Brittenham, is Paying it Forward.
Alexandra spends her summers overseas, teaching school children. On every adventure, she takes her camera. "I've been to Cambodia and then I went to India last summer... and this summer I'm going to Bali," Brittenham said.
When Alexandra's home in Tucson, she's volunteering her time.
"At the beginning of the year, every Wednesday, I'd go read books to kids at El Rio hospital. And then, Mondays, I'd go with my mom to feed the homeless," she said.
Every step of the way, Alexandra is taking photographs. Black and whites, and colors. Last month, she had her first showing at the Parlour on Fourth Avenue.
When Alexandra graduates high school, she hopes to study photojournalism in college. After that, she'd like to join the Peace Corp and eventually, get a job with National Geographic. For Alexandra, there's so much to gain.
"You get to meet all these cool people, and you get to meet other volunteers that like doing the same thing you do. And you're gonna make a difference in other kids' lives by sharing your knowledge with them. By the end of the month that you're there. You can say that you've taught each kid at least one thing."
