TUCSON - The search for a former high school coach who police say took off with a teenage girl may be over.
Todd Hezlitt was arrested in April and charged with sexual conduct with a minor. In May, investigators say he fled Tucson with 15-year-old Brooke White. In June, he failed to show up for a court appearance and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Thursday morning, News 4 Tucson's Lupita Murillo talked with a family member of White, and they say their prayers have been answered: she has been found unharmed.
Sources say the teenager is in the custody of the U.S. Consulate in Mazatlan, Mexico. Mexican authorities are holding Hezlitt, who is awaiting extradition.
News 4 Tucson has come to learn that Brooke White made contact with her family, and told them she wanted to come home. However, since she entered Mexico illegally, she needs a passport to return, and family members are working on getting one issued.
No word on when Hezlitt will be extradited to Tucson, but News 4 Tucson will continue to follow this developing story.
