A Tucson soldier serving in the Army has died from wounds suffered during a gun battle in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense says Command Sgt. Maj. Martin R Barreras died May 13 at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Barreras and his unit were attacked with small arms fire in Afghanistan's Harat province May 6.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
