TUCSON - The Tucson Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers team is going green with the addition of four hybrid vehicles to their fleet.
The four Toyota Prius vehicles, which were previously assigned to the Pima County fleet, will have full Shierff's Department markings and "Assist Team" visible from all four sides, as well as LED red/blue emergency lights and a Sheriff's radio, according to a news release from the department.
The Tucson Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteer program patrols in Pima County Neighborhood Watch areas, Pima County parks, and provides incident response and general volunteer service, the news release states.
Over the next several years, most Tucson SAV vehicles will be replace with hybrids, not only to follow the department's sustainability efforts, but also to better distinguish to the public volunteers from Pima County Sheriff's deputies, the release states.
