Tucson's mobile meals feeds 100,000

TUCSON - News 4 reporter Sam Salzwedel is with Mobile Meals of Tucson Wednesday.

The organization has delivered its 100,00th meal to those in need in the Tucson area.

Mobile Meals helps preserve the health, dignity and independence of homebound adults by delivering special diet meals. Mobile Meals of Tucson, inc. is a volunteer based, non-profit organization delivering special diet meals to the homebound. We are dedicated to providing meals to homebound adults to help them maintain their health and remain living independently. Volunteers deliver meals, and provide social contact and a connection to other community organizations.

Mobile Meals clients are referred to the program. Clients are eligible if they are homebound, have special dietary needs, and are unable to cook or shop for themselves. Clients are provided with two meals a day, Monday through Friday, usually a hot and cold meal. Meals are prepared by eight different local healthcare facilities.
