TUCSON- Memorial Day weekend is nearly here and many local resorts are rolling out big deals to kick off the summer travel season. The temperatures keep many tourists away from Tucson during the summer months, so local hotels and businesses spend that time showing off to the locals.
"They just throw out these great summer specials and 'staycations' are born," said Jessica Stephens, public relations director for Visit Tucson.
In some cases, Tucsonans can score a night of resort-style living for double digits, before taxes and fees.
The Omni Tucson National, for instance, has rates as low as $83 a night with it's "10-20-30" promotion. It's "Fourth night free" promotion starts at $109.
Over at the Westin La Paloma, guests can check out $30 million in recent renovations for as low as $99 a night. The Westward Look's "Tropical Escapes" promotion offers rooms between $99 and $119, which includes a $25 resort food and beverage credit.
Many of these specials last through September, but local travel experts say memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to cash in.
"You have the family together, you get that extra day off," Stephens said. "You have a little bit of extra time to spend together but not go as far so you get the most out of it."
The Radisson is hoping Arizona residents will do just that. It's "Polar Splash Package" starts at $82 a night with poolside movies every Saturday. Also, if you're looking for a mix of education and family entertainment, the Hilton El Conquistador's summer program offers rates as low as $119 a night.
Hacienda del Sol is offering rooms at $89 a night through September 6, and Loew's Ventana Canyon has summer specials between $139 and $179.
