Tucson Police officer fired for falsifying reports

TUCSON - An officer with TPD who was on probationary status has been fired Thursday due to falsifying an official police report.

Benjamin Gaballa was hired last September, Tucson Police spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke said in a release.

The internal investigation into the falsified report began when a female prisoner accused Gaballa of inappropriate conduct, Sgt. Hawke said.

During the investigation, Gaballa was placed on an imposed leave. Investigators determined Gaballa misrepresented facts to his supervisor and mishandled evidence, Sgt. Hawke said.

The criminal investigation into Gaballa continues.

"The actions and behaviors exhibited by Mr. Gaballa are not reflective of the honorable men and women who are devoted to the mission of serving the citizens of Tucson," Sgt. Hawke said.
