Tucson Police investigate morning home invasion

TUCSON - Tucson Police Department's Home Invasion Unit is investigating a shooting, which occurred on the south side Thursday morning.

It happened in the 7000 block of South 8th Avenue shortly after 9 a.m., near Los Reales and 6th Avenue, Tucson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Chris Widmer said.

A female resident fled to a neighbor's home and called 911 reporting that 2 armed men had forced their way into her home, Widmer said. Her baby and the baby's father were still in the home.

Detectives have determined that 2 men, both armed with guns, forced their way into the back door of the home, Widmer said.

There was a struggle between the male resident and the suspects. The male was shot and the suspects fled, Widmer said.

Officers used a first aid kit to provide aid before medics arrived, Widmer added. The male victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The suspects have not been located, Widmer said.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
