TUCSON - A typical slender green-skinned vegetable grows to an unusual size in one man's garden.
KVOA viewer Roberto Franzone sent in this picture of a nearly 2 foot long zucchini squash.
His father, Francesco Franzone, picked the giant vegetable last week. They say it weighs about 9 pounds.
The squash was planted from a seed back in June of this year and was grown in the family's backyard in Rio Rico.
The family is in the produce business in Nogales, and has never seen one this size before!
While this veggie is big, it comes far behind the worlds largest. That record goes to a 69 1/2 inch long zucchini grown by Bernard Lavery of Plymouth Devon, UK. The monster weighed a whopping 65 lbs.
The best size zucchini for eating is six to 8 inches long and 2 inches or less in diameter.
