Tucson dog wins two Guinness World Records

TUCSON - It's official. The new Guinness World Record holder for the tallest dog ever is a 4-year-old Great Dane from Tucson.

The gentle giant is a Great Dane by the name Giant George. He stands at more than 43 inches tall and weighs 245 lbs.

"We kept hearing over and over again, that's the biggest dog I've ever seen. Over and over and over," says owner Dave Nasser.

Nasser says he got Giant George from an out-of-state breeder when he was 7-weeks-old, "As he got older he just kept growing bigger and bigger. Much bigger than normal."

The colossal canine consumes more than 100 lbs. of food per month and sleeps in his own queen size bed.

Giant George officially holds two Guinness World Records, tallest living dog and tallest dog ever.

"We were sitting around and saying you know, there can not be a bigger dog than this. Anywhere. I mean this is ridiculous," says Nasser.

Nasser says a Guinness employee traveled to Tucson to verify the measurements for themselves, "They're very strict. It's a big process. It's just not easy at all. It's been verified. Re-verified. Verified by Guinness. You can't verify it any more."

The enormous size of the Great Dane can be intimidating. But in reality, the owner says Giant George could also contend for the worlds biggest heart.

"He's good with other dogs he's good with children. Really good with children. They come to the dog park and hang on him all the time pulling his ears and tail and he doesn't mind at all," he says.

Giant George is now a celebrity, ever since the world record became official February 15th.

"We have a huge facebook presence. Over 20,000 fans. And Giant George is not just a pretty face. He also is and will be doing charity events."
