TUCSON - 14-year old Austin Thacker will get the greatest gift of all on National Siblings Day (Thursday.) His brother Matt is donating life-saving bone marrow.
Austin has been fighting cancer for about a year, and the initial treatments (including chemotherapy) haven't work. Austin was diagnosed with Stage-4, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in his artery, head, spine, ribs, kidneys and bladder.
Doctors told Austin it's time for Plan "B", a bone marrow transplant, and his brother Matt is the perfect match. Both boys will be in surgery on National Siblings Day.
Matt says, he's thrilled to be the donor... "especially since I can't have another brother like Austin there's no way, i gotta take care of him."
