TUCSON - Sharon Pascoe was faced with numerous surgeries in recent years and the lack of mobility quickly caused weight gain.
"To put it bluntly I was a blimp, a blimp of lard," said Pascoe.
It was a hard time in Pascoe's life two years ago; she underwent three foot surgeries and gained 180 pounds.
"In my head I was so motivated. I was just so tired of being fat and everybody didn't think I was that fat but I just felt horrible," said Pascoe.
She started off walking with a little bit of running and used Weight Watchers. Now she is running six days a week and said it has actually been easy.
"It was probably one of the easiest things for me to do because you could eat whatever you want. It wasn't a diet where you couldn't have carbohydrates you couldn't have protein, I just counted points," said Pascoe.
Within six months she dropped more than 40 pounds. "Because of that I got my second tattoo that was my reward," she said.
It was a tattoo she always wanted.
Her roommate Jenene Bowman said she noticed a change in her happiness. "She's just dedicated in her running and keeping her weight off and she encourages other people and she encourages me all the time," said Bowman.
Pascoe has joined social running groups like Better Than Ever, a fitness program that raises money for cancer.
"I have worked so hard to get where I am at and I don't want to lose it," said Pascoe.
She adds it is important to reward yourself along the way.
