Tucson babysitter found guilty in infant drowning death

April 26 update:

Davis was found guilty of negligent homicide Friday. Her sentencing is June 17.

She was on trial for the death of an infant she was babysitting. Davis drew the baby a bath, walked away and came back to find her dead, KVOA.com archives show.

TUCSON - A grand jury has indicted Zada Marie Davis on charges of Second Degree Murder for the drowning death of infant Winter Breeze Azure last month.

Zada Davis, 27, was arrested on the afternoon of June 19 and booked into Pima County Jail on charge of Second Degree Murder, police officials stated in a news release.

On June 18, emergency crews responded to a report of a child not breathing and unconscious inside an apartment in the 3600 block of North Campbell Avenue.

Davis was arrested shortly after and charged with one count of felony child abuse. Davis put the baby in the bathtub, leaving the water running with toys in the tub, TPD officials state. She then began doing other things around the house, leaving the child alone in the bathroom. After about 10 minutes, Davis returned and found the bathtub overflowing, with the child floating in the water.

Davis was arrested shortly after and charged with one count of felony child abuse. She was later booked on an additional charge of Second Degree Murder.
