TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A citizen of Mexico faces an Aug. 21 trial in Arizona after being extradited to the United States in a drug trafficking case.
The U.S. Attorney's office says 58-year-old Gregorio Lopez-Rodriguez is charged with conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute.
He's accused of being a high-ranking member of a trafficking organization that allegedly used tractor-trailer rigs to transport 14 tons of marijuana into the United States in 2007 and 2008.
Lopez-Rodriguez was extradited to the United States last week in response to a request from the U.S. government, and he was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Tucson on Wednesday.
He was among 22 people indicted in the case in 2009.
