TUCSON - A Tohono O'Odham man was sentenced Monday for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old during a dance in 2009.
Jalen Michael Montana, 36, was sentenced to 15 years following a guilty plea in Sept. 2012 to one felony count of voluntary manslughter.
On Dec. 31, 2009, Montana stabbed the 17-year-old on the dance floor just after midnight, a release from the U.S. Attorney detailed. The two were from rival gangs and had a fight earlier, the release stated.
Rescuers tried CPR on the dance floor in an effort to save the victim but his heart was punctured from the stabbing.
Tohono O'Odham police eventually arrested Montana. He was indicted for murder in May 2011.
