TUCSON - A popular restaurant in Tucson, with a country music theme has been booted from Tucson Mall.
Employees of Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill say they weren't given any notice. They were told Friday night of the closure, the same night furniture was removed from the property.
A sign has been posted on the front doors, reading in part "General Growth Properties has retaken possession of these premises as a direct result of your breach of contract."
Brighid Brown, A representative for Tucson Mall says, "We are unable to comment on specifics regarding Toby Keith's lease, but we are looking forward to announcing new restaurants and retailers in the near future." News 4 Tucson was also told our cameras were not allowed on the property.
The restaurant opened in January 2013, with Toby Keith himself attending a grand opening event four months later. The appearance coincided with Country Thunder, a large music festival held annually in Florence, Arizona.
Keith does not actually own the restaurants, it's a franchise under a Scottsdale, Az company with permission to use Toby's name, music etc.
According to the restaurant chain's Tucson website CountryBarTucson.com, two upcoming live shows presented by KIIM 99.5 could be affected.
Frankie Ballard is scheduled to perform March 26th, and Dustin Lynch is scheduled to perform April 24th. A spokesperson for the radio station says the restaurant chain with likely reroute the artists to another Toby Keith's venue.
