Thunderstorms return to Southern Arizona

TUCSON - Monsoon storm activity ramps up this weekend.

Showers and thunderstorms continue this evening mainly in Cochise and Graham Counties. Periods of heavy rain have warranted an Areal Flood Advisory until 8:15pm for eastern Cochise County. Cities include but are not limited to Bisbee, Bowie and Elfrida. These storms are also capable of producing strong winds, small hail and dangerous lightning. Thunderstorm activity should calm down by 11pm this evening.

Moisture continues to flow into the region tomorrow with an upper level disturbance forecasted to move through Southern Arizona as well. This will give some added uplift and instability to support scattered thunderstorms region wide to wrap up the weekend. As with any thunderstorm we could see strong wind gusts, heavy rain and lightning. Enough moisture hangs around the next seven days to support at least isolated Monsoon storm chances.
