Three shelters, "warming center" to open their doors today

TUCSON - At least two shelters for those seeking refuge from the weather will be open by 5 p.m. today, as well as a shelter dedicated to pets.

According to Tucson Fire, Pantano Christian Church will provide cots, blankets, food and water to those seeking shelter, beginning at 5 p.m. today. No pets will be allowed. The church is located at 10355 East 29th Street.

Udall Park, 7200 East Tanque Verde Road, will open at 5 p.m. today for people and pets in crates - shelter-seekers must bring their own pet supplies. Cots, blankets, food and water will be provided, Tucson Fire officials say.

Pima Animal Care Center will open its shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. for pets. For more information, call (520) 243-5900.

In addition, the Red Cross is working with Cochise County and will open a "warming center" - not a shelter - at 5 p.m. today at Apache Middle School in Sierra Vista.
